Yes, you can. It'll take a long time, but that's how they made meringues before electricity. Freeze a large metal bowl (holds the chill better) and your whisk before beating, and make sure you have someone there you can trade off with, because your arms will get very tired.

You can use a whisk, in making anything in the kitchen. But your arms would get tired, especially if making meringues. They might have a good deal on mixers at KMART or WALMART. But until you can go, use a whisk, if you'd like. I suggest a flat one. Round whisks are hard to work with. Flat whisks do a better job at some things, including beating eggs (an egg beater could be used for that) and mixing pancake mix with water, eggs, ect. BOth kinds seem to have grown through the years. But for meringues, you might want to borrow a mixer from a friend, or neighbor. If you were where I live, I'd let you use my mixer. It's a heavy one.

It will either take a VERY long time because you won't be able to whisk fast enough or you will not be able to whisk enough air in & the meringue will fall. Especially if you do not make the meringue stiff enough....

Yes, but you need to ensure you use a cold bowl. Put your metalic bowl in the freezer and use a pinch of sugar, salt or cream of tartar to help you.

yeah but it would be hard. I'd get another electric mixer, especially for that.
