yeah i know they need a passport, but working in the states and coming to visit is 2 different things, and they make money from concerts, so i was wondering if they need a work permit

No, they need visas. Even citizens from visa-waivers' countries. These are one type of the employment-based visas. If I'm not mistaken, I believe they fall in the E-1, E-2, E-3...category. By the way, EVERYBODY needs to travel with passports. LOL
