I'm never truly happy... I can joke and laugh and am temporarily happy... but then again, I'm a pretty good actress when I'm not temporarily happy. Someone I don't even know said about a picture of mine that they saw sadness in my face...when I look closely at it, I can see it too. Why is this?

you have to find what makes you happy and do it. start a new hobbie, get a pet, read books, go for long drives, switch carrers, go back to school, and thank your lucky stars you are able to do these things

I think a lot of it has to do with your own personal state of mind. You are the only person capable of making YOU happy. If you wait for someone else to do it...you will be waiting a long time, probably a lifetime. I can only say this after years and years of feeling the same way that you do and going through countless therapists. I'm not trying to make it sound like it's easy, because it's not. I have had to learn so much about myself before I was able to achieve "happiness", and I still have a long way to go. I too am a good actress and it irritates me to no end when I feel depressed and no one can believe it because I don't necessarily look or act depressed. Some people are just naturally happier than others. If you feel that your mental state is a problem, then it may very well be...but I wouldn't worry about what some stranger who sees your picture thinks. Hope everything works out for you.

I find this all the time. For a country that is supposed to be free, we find ourselves trapped by certain things. A partial list would include : huge debt, having kids too young, drug or alcohol abuse, loss of a loved one. For me, its more about setting my own standard based on what I know is right and living by that standard. I've sucessfully learned that its all about the choices we make. We can choose to buy the latest electronics to "be cool" or save our money for something more important. Too many times I find myself being ridiculed by "the thought police" for not going along with the crowd. I threw out my television years ago and now spend my time doing things that I want to do and with the people whose company I enjoy. Let them ridicule me, I've managed to work hard and get ahead but I dont have all the latest stuff and I cant count my friends on one hand. It was my choice to go against the crowd and against the normal expectations but who cares? Not me I'm happy without living up to all those pressures.

It sounds a little bit like depression. If you say you are never happy then you probably need to talk to your doctor or someone who can help you figure out what's going on. They may have you try some different meds to help with it.

I know what you mean about the picture. Complete strangers have said the same things about me.

You don't know if anyone is truly happy, there is always something we regret or long for. Wondering if we chose a different road. Just live in the moment and feel the happiness that you have at those times. My moto is the more you pretend at something the more that it becomes a part of you.
