My daughter is almost 17 monts old and I would like to give it a try. I think she might be ready. She sits on her little toilet and reads and stuff but just wont go. She will run to the bathroom door and knock on it.But nothing comes out. Can anyone give me some pointers.

I completely agree with Sonya. That is how I potty trained my two daughters (now 7 and 5) Let her pick out some cute underwear and toss the diapers. I would still use pull ups at night because it takes a child a while to learn to wake themselves up to go..... By oldest daughter was completely trained at 19 months, and My youngest daughter was completely trained at 22 months. (Both took less than a month from start to finish!) It does sound cruel but she will get the idea and not want to mess up her beautiful panties! At first reward them for the smallest efforts, and once she does go.... throw a party! I called everyone I could think of and let her tell them on the phone what a big girl she was.... we paraded thru the house singing songs and cheering! After she got the idea of what i wanted her to do i used skittles to continue her training. Every time she went potty I would let her have a few skittles. Kids will do just about anything for candy and She learned her colors at the same time! Best of luck to you!

She's pretty young for this but here is my potty training solution (best for 2yr olds+ or learning to wear underpants)

make a chart, buy some stickers and some rewards (stamps, etc), buy a timer.

Set the timer to go off every hour. If she is dry or has not had an accident during that hour she gets a sticker.. once she fills a row of stickers she gets the reward.

Lots of positive encouragement.. especially at this age. Make sure potty is a good thing for her or you will just set yourself back a long time.

I have three 12 months ancient dual ladies and potty coaching used to be my WORST nightmare! lol! They are my first so I used to be utterly misplaced. HOWEVER, I determined whatever that labored. One of mine did not wish to move both. I nonetheless made them move in combination and at any time when I went, they went. Each had a potty and whether they honestly used it, they each sat in combination. I could compliment their efforts. I did a gigantic occasion themed poster w/ each and every in their names on it. They selected their stickers and whenever they went they further a sticky label to the chart and stored one. Also, everytime I went to the shop, they could prefer a percent of panties. I consistently talked approximately them being gigantic lady panties and we worshiped the ones panties. Whenever they dirty the panties we tied them in a grocery bag and threw them away. It could holiday their hearts. They speedily stopped! You can set targets for them. If they do not rainy all week, they may be able to get a toy or whatever like that. Patience is essential regardless that. Be very cautious in attempting to not exhibit your unhappiness. It's rough however when they begin getting the grasp of it, you'll quickly disregard this section.

Let her pick out her own big-girl underwear. If she picks them herself, she'll probably be extra careful not to mess them up. I think positive reinforcement is very beneficial too. Let her accumulate stickers over the course of a week for every time she makes it to the potty and at the end of the week, she gets a treat, something small like extra time at the playground or a video that she loves.

She sounds like she enjoys acting like she's a big girl now, like mimicking what she's seen other women do (like her mommy) but she might be a little too young still, at not quite a year and a half old (17 months old).

I know with my two kids I used to offer "rewards" for them going, like to entice them to want to go pee or poo. Rewards can be cookies, juice, a small age-appropriate toy, etc.

Good luck!

I think 17 months is way too young to potty train.

I let my kids decide when they wanted to use the toilet. Somehow, they just got the idea maybe from watching us. I took my daughter to the mall and we bought her a beautiful pair of silky, ruffled panties. She changed into the fancy panties and that was the end of it.

I think that's still a bit too young..she' s copying what she sees! And soon, you won't be able to get her to do it...just give her space and let her continue to watch you...but don't force her..cause then..you'll see her run and hid behind a chair...My son did that! LOL

Stop buying her diapers. She will learn to use the toilet once she gets tired of peeing on herself. It sounds cruel, but thats what my mom did for me, and I learned very quickly.
