The diagnosis was given in a number format. What does it stand for and where can I go to see for myself?

Are you sure this was a diagnosis code?
Code 780.01 is a diagnosis code for coma.
However procedure code 78001 is for a thyroid uptake scan.

I guess it depends on if you are having tests done on your thyroid if you have had a traumatic injury recently???

Good Luck

These types of number codes are used for a diagnosis when you have lab work or x-rays done. They are also used for billing; each code has a different meaning and they use them to charge for different medical services.

If you have a question about what it means ask at your doctors office. They usually have somebody that does the coding and billing, they will be able to tell you exactly what it means.

I have taken classes for billing and coding, but it changes every year and it has been a while since I have done any so I'm not exactly sure what the diagnosis would be or what they are charging you for.

It's called an ICD-9 code. These codes are used for billing purposes. 78001 stands for the diagnosis:

"General symptoms, alteration of consciousness, coma"
