I have to make Chinese Chews for a class at school. The recipe calls for dates, but I have never had a date before so I don't know what they taste like.. Do they taste good or bad? Are they similar to another fruit so I can get an idea as to what they taste like?

They taste good, kinda like fig in a fig newton.

Dates are brown colored fruit. It's a little sticky like figs.

They are very sweet, taste very good. They are really good mashed up, formed into balls and rolled in dried coconut.
