I'm talking about in a sanctioned fight, not in sparring or practice.

I dont believe so. Its an honor issue with the Gracie family. A few answers have referenced the japanese fighter who has defeated some of the Gracies; you must be talking about Kazushi Sakuruba. Sure he defeated Royce, Renzo, Royler and Ryan, but I think the 2 submissions were technical submissions which are referee stoppage If I am correct which means still no tap.

Weasel is right. The submissions in PRIDE were not submissions, they were ref stoppages. As far as I know, in actual competition, they have never tapped. They have lost plenty, but never tapped. Their corners have thrown in the towel, but never tapped. Remember Hughes/Gracie. Hughes had him in that keylock, you saw his elbow come out. Royce never tapped. I don't think it's something they consider doing. They rather suffer the dislocations and the fractures.

I think he lost to a Japanese guy in PRIDE Fighting

I'm not a fan of him or anything but he still didn't tap out...the ref stopped the fight because he had a broken arm

So like, a relax carry? Cowboy Bob Orton's been KOd in a sleeper by Rowdy Roddy Piper, yet that became Piper's finisher. same with the undergo hug used by Lesnar (Brock Lock) and Mark Henry.

Gracies are over rated and they lose all the time, there just men like everyone else. I've seen them get knocked out, stopped, even saw one get his elbow pulled out of its socket.
