I am going to give you guys a little lecture here because you could use it. It was a B-17, an antique today, four spinning props and Pratt-Whitney radials, Olive Drab, the pilots girl friend painted on the nose in a full swim suit. She was a B-17 F Model. The main symbolism of this movie is this. She was the first bomber to make a full mission tour with her crew and come home after about a year over Europe, not Germany alone, in about a year in between, there was a very short life expanse for bomber crews. The Luftwaffe's best were coming up against them. Pilot's where anything under 100 kills was normal. And plenty over 100 around. Our bomber crews died in droves. They burned alive, they died in streaming parachutes that never fully opened, they died screaming trapped in airplanes spinning to the ground by centrifugal force, They were if lucky ripped apart by cannon shell's , and hit instantly by machine gun bullets. They also burned alive. If lucky they died instantly. Thousands of them. And other wounded, being lifted gently out of shattered B-17's. Ripped apart by cannon fire and heavy machine guns. Burned by fire. The 8th air force had the highest casualty rate by percentage of anything in WWII on our side. The whole significance of the Memphis Belle was it was the first bomber to make it's required number of missions and return with its crew. War is never just empty numbers. and names. or types of equipment. It is human suffering, on both sides and folks you will never see again.

Its Memphis Belle. Track down the William Wyler documentary instead of the movie. The documentary contains actual combat footage shot on the bomber itself.

B 52's did not fly in WWII. They weren't developed until after the
war.
However, "A gathering of Eagles" is one movie.
Another one would be "Bombers-B 52" Both movies were made in
the sixties.
MERRY CHRISTMAS and have a nice day.
Thank you very much, while you're up!

You might be thinking of the B-17 named Memphis Belle. A great movie, but it is Hollywood and only 20% historical
