"Jewish mothers" tell you to put on a sweater---because they're feeling cold!
A "Jewish mother", when sending a kid on a four-hour drive back to college with a buddy, will pack enough food for six people....in case the car breaks down between 7-11s.
Even after you're married, a "Jewish mother" will send you home with stuff----"because it'd be a sin and a shame to let it go to waste, and it's no problem, really, so use it in good health." You will not have to cook much after ANY holiday.
Sneeze twice, and you're likely to get some hot tea. If you look tired and have a runny nose in addition, you're likely to get hustled off to bed for a nap "so you don't get worse; you can always use the rest"---even if you're fifty.
The running joke: "What's the favorite 9-letter word of a Jewish mother?" "EATEATEAT!"
ALL MOTHERS ARE JEWISH!---Including mine (also a Lutheran, God rest her in heaven)----and goodness knows, I miss her.
It's typically something of a compliment where I come from---that you're the sort who fusses over people (but you're also being gently teased about the fussing).

Yes it's an insult - but not a really rotten one. I'm sure they meant it nicely. It means that you are one or more of the following: too interested in other people's business; too smothering - telling them how to dress, what to eat, etc;
also they may mean you try to make other people feel guilty about what they do or how they live. Hope this answer helped.

it was a backhanded compliment, Jewish mothers are noted for caring so much about their children that they go overboard and try to organize their whole lives to the point of choosing the spouses. So, I suggest you back off a little

Hey....God bless the Jewish mothers I know. They are loving, kind, caring....
Oh...they lay the guilt on pretty heavy at times...
Maybe that's what your friend meant.
It's not an insult. Jewish mothers, Italian mothers....same thing....they know how to lay on the guilt trips pretty thick!

Jewish mother is someone who is very nurturing. She wants you to eat more. She is controlling and pretty pushy. That's expert advice. From an expert. Bye

It is kind of an insult. It's referring to someone who is uptight, overprotective, and complains a lot. Like those moms that stand over their kids and say "is there anything else you need honey?" constantly.

I don't know what that means either. But who cares what she thinks. A mother is a mother. Only thing that can come before it is Awesome.
