Is masterbation a sin?

I have not found ONE VERSE in the Bible that condems this sexual play.

The story of Onan spilling his seed in the Book of Genesis is traditionally used to condemn masturbation. But, it doesn't directly say God killed Onan for masturbation.

I don't think so.

I think masturbation was categorized a sin because the jews were a small nation that were always at war with their neighbors; and they always needed more soldiers.

This is why I believe the laws against masturbation and homosexuality were set up in the first place.

Well if it is a sin, 85% of all men and 75% of all women are going to be in deep pig ****, eh?

I personally see it as: Why would God create masturbation if he did not have a purpose for it? And besides, it is a natural instinct.

However, like the user said above me, don't overdo it because then it becomes a habit.

No, it's not a sin.
The sin of Onan is that he disrespected his deceased brother by not fathering a child with his widow. Basically, Onan's sin was "pulling out", not masturbating.

Lust of the flesh.

All have sinned and all fall short.

Don't get on a guilt trip.

Christ's grace is sufficient.

Nothing is unclean in and of itself. It's all about balance. Overdoing *anything* becomes a problem. (Eating, lusting, pride, vanity, etc.)

What about the verse that says; "be pure in heart"? This means "sexually pure."
