I'm a Christian, but I have something better than happiness, which is contingent on external circumstances. I have spiritual joy and can rejoice even when things don't appear to going to my liking, because I know how the story ends. I have read the end of the Book, and we win.

Because the world sucks. It's a violent dog eat dog place, only the strong get by. Theres nothing wrong with that, thats just how nature works, humans are no exception.
