How can I become a sheriff or other leading police officer in a hick town in the middle of nowhere?

for police cheif, work for them for 20 and 30 years to other officres die off. or be related to the Mayor.

To become a Sheriff you must be elected, the position of Sheriff is a political position chosen by the voters, To become a Police Chief of any size town i would suggest attending a Police Academy and begin by working as a patrolman to gain some Experience, once you have the experience submit a Resume to the town of your choice and hope for the best!!

Well...I don't know about the rest of it, but since the term "hick" is derogatory, I suggest you start by getting rid of any prejudices you have (we wouldn't want that on a sheriff, would we?), and learn to speak properly.
Then, my suggestion would be to simply go to the police recruiting station, and ask them for specifics.
