We've been together a year and he says he doesn't use the word Love because every time he has in the past, he's been burned. We are both 40-ish.

maybe he doesn't love you. I'd prefer someone who doesn't say it, rather than someone who lies about loving me.

I am 39 and I personally would not stay with a guy unless he loved me and said so...But what it really comes down to what do you want out of life and your relationship with him....Tell him how you feel about this and if he still does not say it then I would be having serious thoughts about staying in the relationship...It would not matter how old or young I am.

It depends how long you have been together. My dad who is fifty has been in so many relationships and never remarried after my mom and has never been truthful when he says I love you to a woman. I think it might be harder as a man gets older to say I love you. Just wait because it might take time

If you know he loves you, but just won't use the L word, Yes, I would probably stay with him. It sounds like he's scared that your going to leave him if he says it. I wouldn't push him, when the time is right and he feels secure, he'll tell you that he loves you.

A year is still very short amount of time ... even if you are both in adulthood.
I would ask that question maybe after two- three years.. If he still isn't sure , well, I guess you would have to ask yourself if it really mattered if he said those three words..? 8 /

Well, maybe he's waiting for the right time. I'll rather a guy tell me that he loves me when it's the right time for him to say. I wouldn't want him to say it just because I probably would want him to. I'm sure that you probably wouldn't want him to lie to you. He'll say it when he really know what he truly wants.

Yes, sometimes it takes a guy a while to be able to say the words. It isn't as easy for a guy to say it. Girls are able to say it more easily.

if he's been burned alot with this it may take him time to say it. But give him time, when the time is right and he feels like you won't burn him he'll say it

give him time, besides, if he doesn't feel it yet, why force it out of him?

Now, if he's deeply buried in the past, you two should talk...if he continues reciting his past relationships then you should leave him
