You should do the smart thing and not join the military until the idiot sitting in the White House no longer controls it.

Although you might not consider this a priority today, one major consideration might be which has a base closest to your home. If your mom or dad gets terminally ill, both services will try to station you near them. Also, when it comes time to get out, in either 4, 20, or 30 years; you will probably want an option to be stationed close to home. As I say, this may not seem important to you toady, but it may be later, no matter how bad you think you want to see the world now.
The main difference between the Air Force and Navy these days is that in the Navy you'll have to do Sea Duty. If you think you'd enjoy that then go for it, but if you have a wife or girlfriend you'd like to be near then forget the Navy.
I did a career in the Air Force and at times was stationed with Army, Navy, and Marines. Army and Marines are unique to themselves, but for the most part Air Force and Navy operate at the same technical level.
Just a side note to add a little humor to your decision, back in the 1980's Tom Cruise starred in a film as a fighter pilot and thousands of young men ran out and joined the Air Force. Top Gun is a Navy program. Whops! Good Luck!

My dad was in the Navy and he alway told us that if we EVER wanted to join the military to join the Air Force. They have more opportunities and are less dangerous. It's all in what you want to do though. There are a LOT of opportunities in the Air Force, from Airplane mechanic to actually flying the plane (of course you got to have PERFECT vision for that). Just look into the various opportunities for both, and decide what you will be best at. Don't just listen to the recruiters or to former or current enlistees' opinions, or even the opinions of us on here. Look at the different options they offer, and the different benefits too. Basically, do your research. That is a big step AND a BIG committment, so make sure you do your homework. You want to be sure you will be in the branch of service that YOU would like. Good luck to you.

I'm in the Air Force, and depending on what you want to do depends on if you can get in. The Air Force is currently cutting people because we are over populated. There is some critical jobs though that we need personnell in and there are is a sign on bonus for most of those. Talk to a recruiter and see what critical jobs are avaliable. I'm not sure what the Navy has to offer right now. but whatever you do, Security Forces is always critical in the Air Force, DON'T do it. Everyone hates it, thats why it is critical. The recruiter always pressures that job.

Well, see what the recruiter will offer. Play both. It is fairly good duty in both. Probably Navy better. Our enemy does not have a navy. So you if you want to be a death or glory boy our worst MOS is as always the infantry. And the Jar heads are worst for that. As an old disabled airborne/air assault vet I disagree they are better. Just stupider. But I like 'em. Nothing like cannon fodder in front of you in a war.

Oh God Air Force is better.
I was in the Army and knew soldiers in both AF and Navy.
AF is harder to get into because you have to have some smarts, but the job you perform usually will transfer to good job experience on the outside once you are done.
Ususally your job for the AF will also include extensive training, which will equate to college courses (you can take your AF training and apply to a college and get credit towards a degree).
AF is also easier.

This depends on what you want to do for a carrier. My advise is talk to each recruiter to find out which service is better for you. Don't decide on one until you check with the other, remember it is their job to make a quota every month so they might be pushy. Also look into the other services as well, you don't know which is best until you research them all. This is going to be the next 8 years of your life so take you time and choose carefully.

Neither is better when you are comparing them to eachother, as one branch against the other. It's which branch is better for you.
I'm in the AF and I love it. I all depends on what job you want to and where you want to do it? On land or at sea. My job is to load bombs, missiles, gun ammo, and anything weapons related (basically anything explosive and dangerous). I'm a mechanic and electrican for the F-15 fighter jet. It's great. The people are awsome too.
This is a list of AFSC's (jobs) in the air force. Look up some. Take the number and do a search on it. For example my AFSC is 2w1x1.

My advise has always been find out what type of job you would like to do and to take the longest school in that typing. I have had experience in the Army and Air Force. Don't listen to all the hype of the recruiters listen to actual members with nothing to gain.
