get her one of those phones made for kids, the ones that you program 5 numbers into it and she can only call/get a call from those numbers

they arent that expensive and are great for kids

also I dont think that you have to pay very much for the service (maybe a few bucks a month or less)

8 yrs old is too young for a cell phone. She already asked Santa? Does she not know that Santa does not always give you everything that you ask for? Tell her that Santa gave all his cell phones to all the soldiers so that the could call home for Christmas.

In my opinion 8 year olds shouldn't have cell phones. Kids need boundaries. I would explain to her that cell phones are for older kids and adults. And that she can ask Santa for one when she is 15 or so.

On Christmas when she is opening the rest of her presents she going to forget she asked about the cell phone.

Wants a cell phone and needs a cell phone are two totally different things. I would say no cell phone. Little kids are trying too hard to grow up too fast nowadays and parents are not helping the situation. My daughter is 12, she wants one too, but I think 12 is a bit young. She is never anywhere without me long enough to need one. i would guess your 8 year old isn't far from you either.....

so did each and every other 8 year old on the planet. You are the Parent so you just say that Santa said No and No and Not till she is 18 and buys one for herself.

my daughter is 10 and asked for one and i said no. just tell her santa does not make cell phones. tell her cell phones are just for adults/moms and dads. it will be much easier when they don't believe in santa anymore.

Tell her Santa was saving that gift for another Christmas and has something else in mind for this year.

if you are a responsible parent, don't you think it is too early for her to have such things? unless you don't get to see her on a daily basis and she lives far away from you and her mom, then maybe that will make things easier for you all. but don't you also think that giving in to her whim is a way to teach her wrong values as well. she may throw some temper tantrum, but in the end she will also forget about it. give her some barbie doll or play dough set instead. give her things that can develop her mind and teach her good values as well. take care and goodluck!

I say she is too young. I got one when I was 14. I've the same phone for over a year now. It depends on her maturity level though. When she is responsible to take care of things, she can have one.
