There are lots of good charities.
I have heard good things about the UUSC (Unitarian Universalist Service Committe) I think they have been in service to others more than 50 years.

Bono does a lot a charity for people in Africa with aids and the orphans that are there because their parents have died. If you google Bono, Africa I'm sure you could find where to send a donation.

There are lots of charities that do good work in Africa. However, it sort of depends on what you want your money to go for and where--my favorites, because I've seen the results in person, are The Michelle Mclean Trust: http://www.mmct.org.na/ and Heifer International: http://www.heifer.org
