Can you offer advice? Have been a victim of the "One day he loves me -- next day he hates me" symptom, with no explanation as to why. This person is not on meds. Thanks.

I have treated people with borderline personality disorder. Meds don't help. This is the kind of program that really does help but he'd have to be willing to do it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dialectical_behavior_therapy

Sometimes, people do these outpatient programs for a few years until they really get it down.

BPD is all about drama. If that doesn't work for you then I wouldn't date someone who's got this going on and hasn't dealt with it.

It takes 2 healthy people to make a healthy relationship.

You are teamed up with an unhealthy relationship with a person that doesn't love himself, or you, enough to get healthy.

By definition, that is not, and cannot become, a healthy relationship.

So, unless you wish to be in an unhealthy relationship (and we then would need to take you therapy to figure that one out!) then you need to end the relationship.

Never, EVER confuse love with pity.

Walk away and walk away now.

It would be different if he recognizes he has a problem and is taking steps to do something about it. But, he has a problem that you cannot change. The way it stands now, anyone who is in his life is going to be treated like a yo-yo. And if you continue to date him, you will eventually begin to question your own mental state.

Don't allow him or anyone like him to push you to the edge. People with Personality Disorders deserve to be happy like anyone else and they also deserve to be given chances. Until this dude begins treatment, he hasn't earned a chance from you.

Its a touchy situation and may even be exhausting for you but if you love him try to be there for him. Try to make sure he gets on medication or some sort of treatment.
