Baptism is something a saved person experiences as a public expression of his newfound faith. You don't get baptized in order to be saved, but you need to be baptized IF you get saved. The only Biblical method of baptism is full-body immersion. All others are counterfeit baptisms. When you go down into the water, it symbolizes death with Christ, and when you come up out of the water, it symbolizes rebirth or resurrection with Christ. He will have washed away all your old sins from your old life, so you can start over with a clean slate. After you are baptized, you are expected to leave behind all your old sins and don't take up any new ones. If you get baptized and then go back to drinking, smoking and using drugs, then you will need to re-examine your life and be re-baptized when you are ready. If you try to get baptized in this state, you will only come up a wet sinner. If, after baptism, you have abstained from all your old sins, but still occasionally sin, you can ask Christ to forgive you, and He will. You will not need to be re-baptized for each sin you commit.
If a person was baptized in a counterfeit fashion, it is allowed for him to be re-baptized by immersion. (See the Biblical story of the men who were baptized by John the Baptist and asked to be re-baptized.)

that's because most people don't do it properly. They just say a prayer and get a sprinkle of water, or a dip in some water. That's pretty much a bath.
Baptism by immersion is a symbol of Christs' burial (as in death) and the coming out of the water in symbolist of his rebirth (aka Resurrection)
After Baptism, you need to receive the Gift of the Holy Ghost, so that the Holy Ghost can always be with you. It is the Holy Ghost that cleanses you of sin. If you don't receive it, it doesn't mean anything.

Baptism is not a public profession of faith in Jesus Christ. It is not an outward expression of any kind. Baptism does not forgive sins. It is not "properly performed" by immersion only. It does not require any "acceptance" or personal belief in the case of infants. Re-baptism is totally unnecessary and invalid. Listen to Booth G, he's absolutely 100% right.

Check the baptism of Jesus in the Gospels and you will see the Father Zeus shouting down on all mortals that this Jesus is his beloved son when Matthew and Luke already said he was child of the Holy Ghost with the Holy Ghost down on Earth fr all to see, as a dove, a holy dove.
The point is that John baptised God in the presence of God and God.
Christians baptise to rid the poor little innocent infant of original sin when Jesus denied original sin in the ninth chapter of John when he denied that the man was born blind because his parents had sinned.

Baptism is a form of initiation into Christianity. It is symbolic of becoming part of what Christians believe to be the "saved."

The point is, when you are baptized you should accept and understand what you are getting baptized for. The old person dies and the New one lives and repents and his now married to God. Once you get baptixzed you should not do the old things sins that you used to. Check this website out, browse it, I am most certain that it will help you to understand,

When someone puts their faith in Jesus, the Holy Spirit comes and cleanses them of their sin.
Baptism by water is a physical symbol of this spiritual reality.
It serves as a public testimony that a person has repented of sin, committed his/her life to Jesus Christ, and is part of God's family.

We get baptized because Christ set the perfect example of everything and he was baptized. If the only perfect person to ever walk the earth got baptized, then do you feel we should too?
