Well, of course it depends on how much you want to spend.
Krups is a great brand and my friend swears by hers as the best money can buy.
Their products include espresso machines, and basic coffee makers both in the $40 price range. They also sell duo units with both, which are quite nice. These cost more like $100.
Epinions has some great consumer ratings on many different products like this. I think you'll find that useful.

The Cadillac of all coffee maker brands is "KRUPPS".
You'll have to look in gourmet shops mostly, to find them. They're not cheap.
I think Williams & Sonoma carry them but I'm not sure.
