illiterate person. Doesn't make sense, meaning that he knows how to count money, and record his business transaction but doesn't know how to read and write

bill gates invented the computer.. yet he couldn't build one.. he got someone to do it for him.. plain and simple..

besides... that was centuries ago!!.. there was no such thing as money... they traded

Probably in 600 C.E. or so you didn't need to write everything down in terms of business transactions - a lot may have been done by memory and oral contracts, since most people could not read or write.

And illiterate people can often count money.

You are right however that he was illiterate (despite the protestations of someone below). When the angel first appeared to Muhammed and told him to 'read' or 'recite' (the word in Arabic means both) his first reaction, apart from being terrified, was to say that he couldn't.

He was not illiterate. The first verse brought to prophet Muhammad was
"Read! In the name of your Lord who creates...." (96:1)
Why would that have been sent first if Muhammad was illiterate?
