I'm a part time nanny for a 17 month old but i HATE my job. I'm in college and off until January 8th. The mother works at home, and so she is always home, interupting us, and the little boy is VERY misbehaved. The mother never gets out and often spills all of her problems to me. The little boy never plays and only runs after his mother screaming. I get paid alright however I have 2 other jobs which pay me almost double. I am beginning school/work again with her in 3 weeks and I want to quit before then. I cannot be honest and say I'm miserable and her son is awful so how shoudl I quit? Any personal experieneces or comments from parents who liked the way their care provider ended things. Thanks everyone!

I hope that I do not come off as a bad nanny. I've been a great nanny for over 7 years, traveling with families and have 15+ wonderful references. I have never quit a job before and only left due to circumstances such as college, moving, etc. In fact I am currently still working with a family I've been with 5 years who has an austitic son who does wonderfully so I am not be any means unsure of my capabilites. He has spent the past 17 months solely with his mother and no one else. She also locks herself in her office speaking loudly enough for him to hear her voice...for those of you who are parents know that when children hear your voice they wonder why they're not with you. There are also circumstances leading to this, so thank you to those who have been kind and offered good answers.

Just tell her politely that you will be quitting the job starting whatever date. You do not have to give any reason for it off hand. If she asks, just tell her that you need some time for yourself before you start college and that you are feeling very drained as of date and want to recharge before you go back to college.

How much you like your job effects how well you do your job. If you're unhappy, quit. Finding the right family isn't always easy, and it's not always obvious that the family isn't a good fit until it's been a while. Tell her that you don't think that you're the right fit for what her son needs - that you hope she finds just the right person, but that person isn't you. There's no shame in admitting that you're not the right person for the job. You can't be everything to everyone. My experience has been that working for work-at-home parents is harder than any other job you'll ever find. They're always there, and their children know that. Are you able to take him out of the house? Being able to get out even a couple days a week might make your job more bearable. But like I said before, if you really hate it - quit. You're not benefitting anyone by staying.

I'm sure she would rather you quit if your not happy,I'd want some one that enjoyed the job taking care of my child, children can pick up on your feelings maybe that's why he acts up.try reading to him ,playing games, poor kid s acting up probably cause no one pays attention to him ,just be honest give her notice ,so she can fine someone else.whys he running after mom your supposed to be taking care of him.give him a hug.

Make sure you find fresh water before you leave the ocean.. and if you felt you were a good nanny make sure you get a reference..
It will always help you later in finding a job.
