It seems a strange question, but for all those people who don't believe in God/Jesus, how come you're all using the same calendar and believe it's 2006? So, it's been 2006 years since what?

The point I'm trying to make - some of you have got it already - is that those people who do not believe in God/Jesus and say this year is 2006, it's 2006 years since WHAT!!?? I believe in Jesus, so this is what we're celebrating.

In Judaism the year is now 5767 AM -- Anno Mundi (the Year of the World). Thus it has been 5767 years since the creation of the world. Their New Year's is called Rosh Ha'Shana.
In the Catholic Church and in Protestantism it is 2006 AD -- Anno Domini -- the Year of the Lord.
In the Orthodox Church the Julian calendar is still in use as opposed to the Gregorian that we now use. Since the Orthodox do not recognize the Pope as the head of their churches, they shun the Gregorian calendar because it was promulgated by a Pope....Pope Gregory. This is why the Orthodox Christmas and Easter do not align with the Catholic/Protestant dates of these two great feasts.
In Islam the year is 1427 AH -- Latin and Arabic for Anno Hijra (the year of the flight). Year 1 in Islam goes back to this date because it is the year that Mohammad (pbuh) fled from Mecca to Medina because of persecutions in mecca. The Islamic calendar is 3% shorter than the Gregorian so do the following calculation: 2006 - 622 and then divide that by .97 = 1427. Their New Year's is 1 MuHarram which will fall on the Gregorian date of 1/20/07.
*** PBUH = Peace Be Upon Him

the Gregorian nomenclature of Year-month-day-2006-December-14th are all IRRATIONAL and UNSCEINTIFIC--Saptambar(September) means 7th month?-how can it be 9th month.Oshtober means 8th month-how October is 10 th month? Navamber is 9---how it is 11th?Dacamber means 10th-how it is 12th? St.Gregory has given an unscientific an irrational nomenclature-July based on Julious Caesar----August on Augustus Megannon---The Hindu bashers won't ask -"Do you have a rational ,sceintific nomenclature!!

The Buddha was 2565 years earlier and Mohamed was several years after Christ. The powerful rulers decide what should be dictated to others.
English, or French or Spanish or Chinese? - How come some of these languages predominate others?

Actually the calendar you reference is only common in Western countries which were heavily Christian at one time. They use a different calendar in China and the Middle East and most non-Christian countries.

Current Christ-based calendar was put in place at a time when the church and the government were one entity.
Too hard to change it now.

Well being that Jesus was born in 4 b.c. it isn't exactly accurate to the Chirstians either. Don't fret though my friend, science has corrected this problem. B.C.E. before common era and C.E. common era rather than B.C. and A.D.
