Ask yourself, do you use to floss? Have you ever not remove any splinters on your gums before? Then if nothing helps, go to the dentist.

Sounds like it could be a gum infection, when did you last have your teeth cleaned or been to a dds? Infections can go to the teeth roots so you want to be rid of it before it does that. Zinc helps heal mouth sores. You have to clean really good and floss to keep food materials out of the gum areas. I would use listerine, a mouth wash called Prevention which fights infection and helps heal too. zilactin swabs you can get at drug stores, will help with the pain so you can eat, they numb really nice. I'm a cancer survivor and I still get mouth sores that are unreal and hurt like the dickens, I use the zinc tablets, clean and floss well, use prevention mouth wash, listerine and zilactin and I do really good.

Sometimes my gums will swell and hurt if something gets caught beneath the gum line. Floss really well, from every conceivable angle, then take water and peroxide in equal parts and rinse and gargle for a few days. If that doesn't help , go to your dentist

Use Hydrogen Peroxide and let it stand in your mouth for 2-3 minutes everyday.
