For those of you that do not know what is going on in Darfur, it is pure hell. 200,000 innocent ....INNOCENT women and children ....not men fighting in the war small children and women, have been murdered by a regime. Now president Bush has claimed we went into Iraq to free the people of saddam, great news i didnt like him either but if we did that why can't we do it here? Also over 2 million people have been taken from their homes and put into training camps to go adn kill more innocent children. The way it works there is like this
1. The enemy army comes in takes the children.
2. they train the children to kill and if they dont kill they kill you.
3. they make the kids watch other kids get torture to put hate into these kids.
4. they send the kids back to kill.
5. we do nothing......

maybe its time for a chance...or maybe im not seeing somthing....some1 help me out here am i missing somthing or am i right?

The picture is that the UN is still negotiating with surrounding areas like Chad on things like troop deployment. The UN is powerless without its members being involved, and it is likely the casualties on both sides would be very heavy if there was war; the sudanese government has openly exclaimed that, were international troops to intervene, the situation would become another Iraq.

Plus, theres the arms deals the western world has cut for Sudan. It's not just China and Russia, but the UK and US too, which have money to make out of selling weapons. Really we've been all talk and no action, and haven't pursued the threats that we have made.

The situation in Darfur is utterly appalling and is akin to another Rwanda. Very few states are interested in making the violence stop, least of all the US. Once again we have let down the rest of the world.

We probably would be doing such that right now, but after Iraq (A similar cause, bombs being strapped to children and arre being ordered to explode at other Muslims and what not). But look what happened there, the Democrats told the public stuff was happening that wasnt happening and now everyones blaming Bush. The government relizes that if we tried to do the same thing w/ any other situtation (like Darfur) that the Democrats would do the same thing as they did in Nam and Iraq.

Yes, it does suck. The US doesn't like to get involved in civil wars so my guess is that like Rwanda, this will be dressed up (later,if need be) to appear to be a civil war.

I do think the first two answers were spot on. Sorry for the people with the thumbs down who can't seem to handle the truth but the truth is that American business interests are not at stake here so the US wants nothing to do with it (Unlike Iraq where the American economy's vitality was seen to be at stake if the flow of oil were interrupted - ooops, you won't agree with that either).

And for the doofi that seem to think liberals have had anything to do with Iraq, go read a paper. That is 100% the doing of Bush and his Republican yes-men congress (again, it's people that can't handle the simple obvious truth in front of their faces).

there is no good reason...only good political ones

because the US and UN would go in, a lot of soldiers would get killed, and the people back home would blame the government for letting their sons get killed for a bunch of poor people in a country they can't pronounce. sad but true.

UN will never do anything. Russian and China have huge arms and oil deals with Sudan. They certainly don't care about the people. If US goes without the UN, then we are labeled "imperialists". Lose/Lose situation

the only truly selfless military mission in recent history was in Somalia. Look how that ended. the american public demanded that the US leave after only 18 soldiers were killed(a teririble but necessary sacrifice if you hope to intervene in any conflict or genocide)

(so why am i getting negative marks for telling the truth? the exact truth. i guarantee i'm the only one on this forum that's actually been to Sudan)

First question I have for you is, Do you support the US in Iraq? Should we not finish the mission there first? If not, why should we get involved in another muslim civil war? Why move the battlefield? Do you realize that when we move our troops anywhere in the world now, the insurgent terrorist are sure to follow? What is the National security issue for the United States in Darfur? Is it because one is in the mid east, and one is in Africa? Do you remember the last time America tried to help out in Africa? I do. What has Africa done to help Africa?

Why don`t the Europeans who are shedding lots of crocodile tears about the poor people in Darfur get off their fat butts and do something. They are always waiting for the Americans to go in and fix the mess, but when they do all those oh so civilized types start pointing fingers at the American warmongers, such brutes really, someone should do something.

Three reasons:

1. The Sudanese government is providing the U.S. government with valuable intelligence regarding terrorists groups.

2. Bush came under tremendous amounts of criticism for so called unilateral action in Iraq, and is now pursing the diplomatic, negotiation, act through the U.N. approach.

3. Militarily speaking, the institution of the U.S. Armed Forces is stretched thin.

Out of all the countries in the UN, why are you singling out the US? Have the countries neighboring Dufar done anything? Have the countries of EU done anything. Has any other country or orginazation except the US (who have decided to form a committee which will look into forming a committe to possibly, consider maybe forming a committee to look into the problem). I'm currently sitting in Kabul Afghanistan looking at the same news reports you are.. WHY DON'T YOU DO SOMETHING?

Unfrozen Caveman and someguy –
are right. It is a simple and sad answer. The fact that they are not white Christians also works against them.
