MK 8:39 And he said to them: Amen I say to you, that there are some of them that stand here, who shall not taste death, till they see the kingdom of God coming in power.

Also see: Mark 13:24-33, Mathew 16:28, Matthew 24:34, Luke 9:26-27, and probably some stuff that slips my mind.

Jesus constantly proclaimed that the people he was talking to and that generation would witness the end of days - essentially placing it the 1st century CE?

Whats up with that?
Now just dont tell me its not meant literally, its a clear statement found in different books (Mk,Mt,Lk) even sealed by his "Amen"
It is not literally applicable in order to suggest a resemblance, its not a metaphor - unless you would suggest all his words to be metaphoric.

Mk. 9:1 (not 8:39) can only mean one of two things. 1-they would see Jesus during the transfiguration, or 2-they would see Pentecost. Its not talking about the end times.

Now Mk 13:24 is about the end times, but no mention that this group will witness it.

Mat 16:25 again not the end times but Jesus' death and resurrection.
Mat 24:34 Yes -the end of the age, but those who see it will be those who witness the fig tree budding v. 32.

Luke 9:26ff again not the end times , but the transfiguration which took place in the next few verses-see v. 28-36.

Most of these are fairly easy, but you must read the surrounding verses.

Matthew 16:28 (New International Version)
28I tell you the truth, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom."

Matthew 24:34
34I tell you the truth, this generation [or race] will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened.

Luke 9:26-27 (New International Version)
26If anyone is ashamed of me and my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his glory and in the glory of the Father and of the holy angels. 27I tell you the truth, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God."

It's a very good question. Guess what--I don't have the answer!

If Jesus meant that some standing there will not taste death until he comes again, then, well, it blows my mind some 2,000 years later! Maybe there's a 2,000-year-old man hanging around, like that Mel Brooks-Carl Reiner routine. Or maybe Jesus' prophecy was fulfilled when John was taken by the angel to see the end times as recorded in the Book of Revelation. Maybe some first-century people didn't die but were taken up, like Enoch or Elijah in the Old Testament.

Now as for the "this generation" thing: a generation can mean a group of people on the same generational plane, such as brothers and sisters and cousins. It can also mean a race or ethnic group or tribe of people. Jesus could have been saying that Israel would not die out before he came again.

We are in the very last of the last days before the Lord returns! At the Lords' return the saved will be caught up (raptured) to be with him at which time the tribulation will commence. The signs of the lords return are given in Matthew Ch.24 and note here that the Lord stated that all these things would be seen in the span of one generation which I believe is the generation alive now. It has to be this generation as the generation which was alive when he said these things have all passed on. The 7 year tribulation will be a time more terrible than any other ever experienced on earth.

Wrong. There is no Mark 8:39.

Mar 13:24 But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light,
Mar 13:25 And the stars of heaven shall fall, and the powers that are in heaven shall be shaken.
Mar 13:26 And then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory.
Mar 13:27 And then shall he send his angels, and shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from the uttermost part of the earth to the uttermost part of heaven.
Mar 13:28 Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When her branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is near:
Mar 13:29 So ye in like manner, when ye shall see these things come to pass, know that it is nigh, even at the doors.
Mar 13:30 Verily I say unto you, that this generation shall not pass, till all these things be done.
Mar 13:31 Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.
Mar 13:32 But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.
Mar 13:33 Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is.

Mat 16:28 Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.

The second death.

Mat 24:34 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.

The generation of the fig tree.

Luk 9:26 For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father's, and of the holy angels.
Luk 9:27 But I tell you of a truth, there be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the kingdom of God.

See, spiritually the kingdom of God.

Wow, you really did some research!

I believe that, in that particular verse, Jesus is not neccessarily talking about end times. I believe he was saying that these people would see God move, possibly in the revival in Acts.

Jesus also spoke a bit about end times. He also said that only God the Father knows the dates and times that these things will happen. We are living in the end times now. Volcanoes are awakening, the Tsunami disasters, and the possibility of a Third World War are all signs that our Lord will be returning soon.

I hope that helps you out. If not, you can always pray that God will reveal what he is saying in these passages.
God bless.

Two signs, however, are exceptional that have not occurred in the past. One has happened and one is yet to come in this current generation: the "fig tree" in Matthew 24:32-34 has come to pass; the "Great Commission" in Matthew 24:14 has not.

When Jesus made that statement it had to do with the transfiguration of Jesus, not the end of the kingdom. I can't find where Jesus CONSTANTLY proclaimed to His followerd that they would see the end of days. Read the next few verses. If it ended why are we still here? I take it you are a preterist.

Well I can see that you meant Mark 9:1.

Anyways, who are you to say that some in the crowd are still not alive.

IS Happening.

Two fulfillments:

one) applies to the first century about his death and destruction of Jerusalem

two) applies to our conditions now...as the end times before this wicked system is destroyed
