Why is it so hard to still be friends after you break up?

That has always been my thought. I have only had three boyfriends and dated quite a few guys but I have always made sure we became friends, its important to me, because of the reason you said....if we liked each other before, and it didn't work out, does that mean you can't still be friends? Not. I still like all of them as friends and never wished anything but happiness for them, and they for me. It worked for me but alot of people can't understand that concept. the reason it is hard 2 b Friends after u break up is because your feelings r hurt and chances r u don't really want 2 be around the person who made u feel that way. some people can get jealous of a new relationship and that can cause a bad friendship as well. also u might still kinda like them and don't want them 2 find out.

More than likely, things are clearly awkward. Like, if you're friends with the person, it could bring back some memories that were so nice. That it's painful now, especially knowing that the memories will never happen again. It hurts some people more than others. I guess not everyone is as strong as they'd like to be. And have more of a sensitive side.

True..but then there is also history now between u 2 so its harder to just B friends..some1 might harbor more feelings than the other and it might B easier 4 U to just vent and expect a friendly hug but the other who might still harbor feelings will take that simple act as something more and read too much into it..therefore it is better to just not B friends until U can both handle it..

Im going through the same thing its hard because there is always 1 person that still loves the other may it be the guy or the girl. Being friends means u still have them in ur life but it can be good but then it can be bad if u r the 1 that is still in love wit them coz being friends means u`ll go out together etc but who really wants 2 c some1 there in love with kiss or do anythin with some1 else not me thats 4 sure. it`s always hard but if u want them in ur life friends it is!!!!!!!!!

Yea but there is this sort of "unfinished business" that got cut short for whatever reason and causes there to be a lack of harmony need to have a healthy relationship, even friendship can't work if there's dischord.

If possible u should go back 2 normal. Still b their friend eventough it probobly is arkward you need to break the barrier because in the friend u could end up being great friends.

sometimes you can be friends, sometimes you can't. that is because sometimes when you break up with somebody, they might love you or have strong feelings for you and when you break up with that person, that hurts them alot and when you ask can you still be friends, that hurts more because they might think you didn't love them in the first place, cause when u love someone, you can't just be their friend, cause their not gonna want just half of you.
