It may vary by state, but in Illinois, the "officiant" -- the person who conducts the ceremony (minister, priest, judge, whoever) -- has to sign the license and send it back to the County Clerk for the marriage to be legal. So in Illinois, the answer is no.

However, there's also "common law marriage," which doesn't require a marriage license or a ceremony. Some states recognize it, some don't (but if your home state thinks you're married, other states will recognize it too). Usually common law marriage requires that you live together for a certain minimum amount of time and you present yourselves in public as being a married couple. There may be other requirements too.

So if you live in a common law marriage state and meet the requirements for a common law marriage, then you're married whether you have a license or not.

You need someone legal to sign the license; sorry. That is unless you live in PA or Colorado. When you apply for the license you can tell them that you don't want an actual ceremony & they take it from there.

All you have to do is say "I do" to the question of intent. The record for the shortest marriage ceremony is 4 seconds.

NOPE! The license is just to show the judge or priest or whoever you go to that you have paid your fees. You have to go through the ceremony and get a Marriage Certificate after the wedding.

You can get married at a courthouse by a judge. Go and apply for your license then go to a preacher and he will marry you. No you do not have to have a wedding but you do need a preacher/judge to marry you

no all you have to do is go to the the courthouse and get a marriage certificate and the judge can marry you (a marriage license is something you need to marry other people not to get married).

yes and no. There is one aspect of the ceremony - the part were they ask "Do you take....." and you say "I do" that is legally required to be said infront of 2 witnesses and someone who is legally allowed to preform marriages. This can by done at your local court house without any formal ceremony or other arrangements needed.

For the peace and remembrance of the occasion go to a minister and get married at the church or social hall...Slip him a donation for the service and you can even invite a small crew. Peace
