Don't know if it will slow down your pc but you can run a test. Install CA antivirus first and use it for a couple days. After that uninstall it from your pc, defrag your hard drive and install this free antivirus here http://www.free-av.com to compare. I think you'll like it better than CA because it use very little of your pc resources.

Any program you install on a machine has some effect on its operation; it all depends how much free space you have on your hard drive. The data you give seam OK, so go ahead and install the program. But before you install it make sure that your system is thoroughly cleaned. See below for that.
A THOROUGH CLEANUP, WIN XP:
While you are connect to the Internet do the following:
1. Click on “Tools” ... “Internet options.” There you will see three buttons next to each other... "Delete Cookies" ... "Delete Files" and "Settings." Also, below the settings button you will see another one "Clear history."
2. Click on "settings" - go to “View files” – go to "Edit" - Click on "select all" - Go to “files” and click delete, wait till all “temp” files are gone.
3. Go back and click on "delete cookies" and wait till gone
4. Go back and click on "Delete files," put a check mark on the little white square shown on the small window that will open, click OK and wait to finish.
5. Go back and click on "Clear history", click “yes,” wait a little and you are done.
6. Now, perform a “Check disk” and then a “Defragmentation;” when finished, restart your computer and see how your machine behaves.
7. One more thing you could do is to go to this site http://www.tune-up.com/info/lp/tuneup-utilities/?ap=1646 and download their free trial program; familiarize your self with it and use it to clean up your registry automatically, (Don’t do anything manually in the registry!). It is an excellent and safe little program that does wonders with PC maintenance tasks. I strongly recommend it!

Not sure what this is. I use Norton its one of the best. Semantic product. Other people like McAfee.
Um the firewall will sometimes interfere with responses, but it shoudlnt' really slow it down at all. Just make sure to configure your firewall to accept the sites you want. Start by accepting the defaults then customize from there.
Anytime you run multiple applications it has the potential to slow down your processor, but mere installation should not effect it.
