I just realized my road tax ran out on 31 October 2006. DVLA didn't send me a reminder as the last reminder was for a year & I only had it for 6 months. What do I do? will I be fined?

I went to the post office & they could only give me road tax from 1 Dec & I tried to declare SORN for November but it only allows you from December & it says there's a gap from 01 November & it's an offence & DVLA will be in touch with me reagrding this offence. Help, I'm really worried I'll be fined £1000

It's no problem if you sorn the car online today it will cover you for having no road tax as you obviously have not been caught yet. Then tomorrow go down the post office and tax your car and then you will only have to pay from the 1st of December. That way you avoid paying tax for the months you missed.

It may be best to write it down on a calendar the next date it runs out, same as MOT and insurance just in case.

No offensive but you didn't know that the tax ran out for a whole month of November and half of December, how do you manage when MOT runs out and you don't get sent a reminder for that

Get your bag packed, mate. Your off to jail soon!

No, seriously, they should have sent you a reminder before it expired. I suggest that you ring them (DVLA) and tell them what happened and ask if you can have it backdated to 31st October.
I am assuming, of course, that you have not been caught by the police, in which case your excuse will probably not be accepted. If you have not been spotted by the police, then honesty is the best policy.
I wish you luck either way.

If you are quick to pay you may avoid a fine. You can buy your tax over the phone but it will be from Nov1

You need to sort this out quickly, I am surprised they havn`t sent you anything yet as you hav`t marked your car as sworn, you may have to pay from November!

Hurry up!
