my blood pressure is always low and i often get dizzy and tired whenever i have had to go into hospital(for unrelated minor things) my blood pressure plummets really low and i have had to have oxygen once or twice does that mean i have bad reactions to anaesthetics for some reason or its just normal and im worrying for nothing? what could happen if it drops too low? also when you wake up from anasthetic is it normal to shake like you are having a fit and have an oxygen mask on your face?! am i a hypochondriac?

First you are not a hypochondriac, at least not base on these questions.

Anesthesia, either spinal, epidural or general, can and usually does drop your blood pressure some. The whole point of anesthetic is to shut down your nervous system to diminish the pain and stress of surgery. However this also, in part shuts down your autonomic nervous system that regulates you blood pressure. During the procedure you blood pressure will be monitored and appropriate action taken if it gets too low. Serious problems with anesthetic are fairly rare.

When awakening from an anesthetic, it is protocol for supplemental oxygen to be administer. For a general anesthetic this will be done by mask, rather than a nasal cannula (through the nose) as you may be mouth breathing too. Again you blood oxygen saturation is monitored routinely, and the oxygen is discontinued when you are fully awake and breathing deeply. Also it is not at all strange to feel scared as you awaken from an anesthetic. The anesthetic itself disorients you, and then you are having a lot of invasion of your personal space. People have there hands on your face. Maybe you arms are being restrained so you don't hurt yourself. You might feel someone touching you as they apply a dressing etc.

This happened to me the very last time I had an epidural, and the anesthesiologist stayed by my side talking to me and making sure I was okay, keeping me awake. He kept the oxygen on the entire time and said soothing things. I guess what I'm trying to say is, even though you might know what is involved in the surgery, and you know you are in good hands, maybe you are nervous and that is going to mess up the bp even more as you hear all the beeping and see the lights and stuff around you, so try to remain calm. It is very normal to shake too.

It is absolutely normal.during anaesthesia blood vessels and may be vital organs relaxes. It drops your BP.weakness of lungs needs oxygen mask to keep your vital organs safe.when you are in hospital you will be treated with intravenous fluids until you become stable.as the result of relaxed blood vessels blood flow to the organs decreases and becomes cold and shivers itself automatically to become hot.It is very usu all.
