It was not Christopher Columbus. He never set foot on American soil.
I would say the first immigrant to have arrived would be Leif Erickson, a Viking, and the 2nd son of Erik the Red, the famous Viking soldier. He traveled on the sea around the globe from Greenland, to Iceland trying to find a new land to call home, since he and his father had been exiled from their homeland, Norway. He brought his clan and wife with him, and he landed in Florida, which he called Vineland, ie: Newfoundland. It is believed he called it this because of the grapevines that grew where they settled for some time. This was in the 11th century, 500 years before Christopher Columbus.

In the early 1500's when the first set of English arrived and settled in Virginia. They did not survive (watch the movie that came out last summer about the settlement). The next wave of English immigrants came on the Mayflower and settled in New England.

To our planet?

About 450,000 years ago when the Anunnaki (Sumerian Language) arrived somewhere around the Persian Gulf and today's Zambia South East Africa. According to Z. Sitchin's theory well explained and documented in his book - The 12th Planet - they also created humans - the first Adam. It may sound bizarre but these fellows were the first global immigrants to Planet Earth.

Who knows? They didn't have laws and in alot of cases didn't keep records way, way back in history? I mean at one time we were pretty much one land mass.......how far back are you going and what does that have to do with now? In some cases places were "discovered" simply out of curisoity.

Are you referring to the planet or United States? If you are speaking of the world it was Adam about 6,000 years ago to worship God, and be the keeper of the Garden of Eden.
