Actually religion can be godless - relationship with God is not

Well, no. The typical religions you and I think of are monotheistic, and the old ones like the Greeks and Romans had were polytheistic. Monotheistic meaning one god, and polytheistic meaning more than one god.

Now, some "religions" are godless, but they are sometimes also referred to as philosophies. Such religions are Buddhism, Confusionism, and Taoism. These religions do not have dieties, but involve the afterlife and a soul. Plus they teach excellent human values.

If one belongs to a particular religion, one is subscribing to a pre-set system of beliefs and practices typically established by many generations of people and shared by many people in the present. So a religion is sort of a community with a high importance on conformity. So I would say that your question is an excellent one. Is it the worship of God or a following of rules?

Depends who gets to define religion and godleness.

Religion: a specific fundamental set of beliefs and practices generally agreed upon by a number of persons or sects...

By that definition atheism could be considered a religion. The existence of god can't be proved or disproved. When you believe something that can't be proved you're practicing faith. Ergo, it's reasonable to call atheism a faith based religion.

Yes. Reglion is all about following tradition. There is no interaction with God in religion. It is people doing things they think are good, because they think it pleases their god.

Isn't it so much better to know God? I don't see my Christian faith as a religion. It is my relationship with God. I am getting to know Him, and I feel His love, His peace, His forgiveness, and when He breaks sin and pain off my life. I feel His presence. I long for the day when I will see His face.

Religion is quite Godful. If you have faith in love and hope for the world, and believe that no matter what happens around you you can be a helpful person involved in your world, your family, and your community, and you care you do not need material symbols. You just need strength and love.
