I've been asked by afew neighbors if I would be willing to drive them to the airport. The airport is 74 miles from our street and takes roughly an hour an a half to get there. my car takes 35 dollars to fill up completely but its usually atleast 1/4 full all the time. They said they won't let me do it for free as a neighborly favor which I am prone to do and they want to know how much I charge. I've driven afew different people to the same airport and they've given payments of 50-125 totally without my request to be paid so how much should I tell them? It will be 4 people and they want me to pick them up for a ride home as well.

Call the local car service in your area and ask them what their rate is (pretend you need to utilize their service - then just tell them you're getting quotes and will get back to them) and base your price on the price they give you. At least you'll have an idea as to what is fair as that seems to be of concern to you ;)

If the neighbors don't do anything for you, then by all means charge them. Charge them for your time and what it would cost you in gas. Then add 10%. It's not unreasonable to charge them. Most likely they would have to pay at least $100-$150 for a shuttle at that distance. Make it worth your while. Think of it as a business. Remember, they asked you, you didn't solicit to take them to the airport.

If you don't feel comfortable asking for the money don't give them a price just let them pay you what they wish. Since you have previous payments in which to base this on you can say you usually get a hundred dollars.

If you are just going to be neighborly. I would just have them pay for the gas and let them decide if they want to pay you any more than that for your time. Of course, you run the risk of just getting your gas money but at least if nothing else you broke even.

Guess how much money it will cost to pay for gas, then add in a lil extra for yourself. I'd say $30 a person. But thats just me.
