I've been reading a lot of answers here and over the past week, I've seen more people who can't type than those who can. People don't capitalize, use the correct grammar or syntax and some are quite unreadable! Are people really that stupid? Do they really not know how to write a readable sentence?

Does that really matter in the whole scheme of problems in the world?

I don't think it's a matter of being stupid. It's more of them being lazy as hell. They figure, why should anyone care about proper grammar and punctuation on the Internet? It's not like they're writing their resume or doing homework.

But the thing is that it does matter, because these same people end up looking like complete morons, and yes this carelessness eventually does leak out to the "real world". I've seen excerpts of term papers -that come from universities mind you- that are full of typos and use incorrect grammar. It's just sad, really.

There are several issues involved. Simply to answer your question, Yes, people are that stupid. Other issues are they simply don't care about the Check Spelling button above the 'Your Answer' box. They don't care at all. Others like myself slept through most of English because I figured since I spoke the language why did I need to take courses in it. Others are the questions are asked by young children or by people whose first language is not English.

Yes, many responses are written by young people who refuse to take advantage of school English lessons, so they rush through it and don't proofread - OR - they are written by adults who really live this way and don't care about how they sound, talk, act or look!

If people wanted an English lesson they would log off and study. This just happens to be mindless fun that is absolutely free. people can be stupid, but the anonymity of the site allows them to be free. Why do you want to shackle us?

I think it's more out of laziness than stupidity. Most of the time, anyway.

If you understand the question/answer what difference does it really make? It doesn't really matter to me, what matters is everyone is communicating something.
