I really doubt the English would like to be he 51st state for such reasons :
- you would have to give up your political system and obey the US governement. I know you guys like your Queen Elisabeth II.
- would you be ready to forget the pounds ? and thus the Queen on the bank notes. It is already a small reason that made you reuse to join the Euro zone
- in France we already say that you are the US puppet or puppy because Blair is always following Bush whatever he says. So now it would be worse.
- it would take a longer time to go to Europe because of the custums formalities
- what about Wales, Scotland and Ireland ? would you leave them behind ?
- you would not be able to take part of the 6 nations tournament. So it would mean Grand Chelem every year for France (^_^).

Funny I thought England was in the UK! It is part of Europe because Geographically its the nearest continent! As for being a member of the USA No thank you! We are influenced enough by them already! The Americans have never yet managed to flatten a country who upset them except for Japan and Do you think dropping weapons of mass destruction on them was right? That is supposed to be WHY we went to war with Saddam!!!

If the french hate you I think it's probably personal, you sound like a bit of a wanker. I've found them mostly to be charming and helpful and their children are far more polite and know how to eat in a restaurant without causing havoc.
If you think the americans speak our language perhaps you could translate what Bush is trying to say.

saffysmum...thankfully the English from the 40s had more backbone than you, or you'd be speaking German these days.

don't denigrate the French...they are some mean folks. Have you ever heard of the things they did in Africa, check out their handling of Algeria....it would make Pol Pot cringe

Dropping the atomic bombs on Japan saved millions of Japanese and Chinese lives, not to mention thousands of allied soldiers. The truly terrible thing would have been further use of conventional weapons

no i would have rather stayed with the commonwealth. we traded the biggest trade agreement for a 2nd rate one. the french hate us and stopped us going in the europe in the 70s. so why did we not take that as a hint. tony bliar is just trying to get his name in the history books for distorying this country. we all speak english in the commonwealth and there are poor countries in it. so why are we letting in the polish and the ex russian countries that we fought a cold war agaist why not help out the ones that help us in wars.

Britain only have one foot in Europe but consider the advantages. You get more legal protection than you would in the US. For example you have come back if you are sacked. In the US you are shown the door and that's it. You have free trade within the EU, harmonised legislation, freedom of movement, cheap flights, EU grants and rebates. The only thing lacking is the Euro.

Geographically speaking we are in Europe...end of story. I like Scotland but I don't live there if I wanted to be part of Scotland and live under Scots rule I would put ma kilt on and head north for the border...get ma meaning Jimmy?

Relax the french hate you because they hate everybody... it is their job. Do you have a plan for packing up England and moving her? Then you are in Europe. As far as Americans sticking up for themselves it is a drag to always be on guard. We are not trying to come off as bullies. I think you have got it all wrong and you are not yet ready to be an American.

"they dont only hit them back they flatten them"...yeah thats something to be real proud of going in and destroying weaker countries for no logical reason but sure we'll say its them that are the terrorists so it's all good.yeah bullies are great...

I for one would put my full support to England not being a part of Europe, the less connection with them the better. They're pointless anyway joining the EU but barely participating in it and wrecking everyones head with their "sterling."

But sure it may aswell be a part of America cause its got its nose so far up Bushs *** anyway.

Yup.
We are the gateway into Europe. Europe is a stronger nation than the USA together. But the USA cant touch it without us Brits.
I like the way that we are both American and European. It still puts us Brits at the top of the food chain in the western world.
