Will the world ever follow one system of beliefs? What belief are we all heading toward? When do you think this will happen?

Never.

It simply will not happen.

If there was a belief system I'd like to have worldwide, it'd be atheism. However, many people would be dissatisfied with such a system, so they would probably just re-create religion, even if they started out atheistic to begin with. Religion just is something to fill in where science can't explain. It lives in the gaps of science, so to speak. Because it is impossible to know everything, there will always be religion.

Or, at least that's my take on it. (I just hope that someday religion with be downgraded to a personal hobby instead of something that is the basis of governments.)

This will occur once the planet evolves to a higher state. At this time planet Earth is below the half way point of evolution of final evolution. It is a material planet of suffering, trials and expiations of the souls who inhabit it. As the planet evolves, the people on it must evolve also, if they do not, and the planet surpasses an individual's evolutionary level, they will reincarnate onto a planet more suited to their level.
As planet Earth evolves to a higher level, the people reincarnating to it, also are of a higher level of moral fortitude and intellect. As this evolution takes place, the wrong-doers, will fade away. As the population of good people take over the majority of the planet, the wrong-doers will fade away in shame of their difference. Just like how people of like affinity congregate amongst themselves.
When this happens, and tolerance of others is finally reached, a common understanding of science and religion will be gained, and will be no longer looked at being to different subjects, but the same. One explaining the other, and visa versa.

I don't think that will ever happen. it would be like the whole world preferred the color blue to the color red. Or if all of us had the same preferences for time of day. Basically it will never happen. Thank the Gods for that. I think I'd have to kill myself if everyone was exactly the same.

Hopefully the world will not all believe in just one religion. I look forward to the day when rational helps humanity abolish religion all together! If our existence is improbable so much so that a supreme being had to create us, then I say that the creation of a supreme being is that much more improbable.

This will happen when people come to realize that love and kindness should be their over-arching goal. I recently saw a bumper sticker on a car that showed the symbols some of the world's religions and it said coexist. I thought no, we have to come up to a higher level than that. Religious unity and peace will only come when mankind comes to realize that "blessed is he who mingleth with all men in a spirit of utmost love and kindness... and who preferrest his brother before himself. and that all nations and peoples are of one family, the children of one Father and should be to one another as brothers and sisters. (quotes from the Baha'i writings) www.usbahai.org I believe with all my heart that we will, in the not too distant future, realize that the foundation of all religion is one and that religion must be the cause of unity. When that happens we will witness the coming of the Age of Peace promised by so many different religions.

No, because the world is too diverse for there to be just one religion.
