As Decarte so aptly put it "Cogito ergo sum" I think therefore I am. If we defined human life as when their is a detectable EEG or brain activity by law, it would allow for euthenization of Brain dead people, and would set an agreeable time limit for legal abortions. There is no EEG until the second tri-mester.

It would be amazingly difficult and divisive to come to a consensus on the subject, and it would be appealed the second it passed.

It is a remarkable idea, though, and I thank you for giving my spouse and I a topic for discussion this evening.

Hmm, I don't think there should be an amendment, and just basing life on an EEG is not all that accurate. Even people in a vegetative state have brain activity.

Medical decisions and decisions regarding a woman's body should be left to the parties involved, not to the government. I would much rather that the government stay out of the picture than try to impose even greater restrictions on us.

What would be next, a constitutional amendment defining gender? Defining pornography? Defining music?

It doesn't matter, this world is filled with people who love to argue and whine. If an amendment is added it would take about 30 seconds for a new group of haters to start protesting the amendment. It never ends!

Be very careful of what you wish for. The more people try to set definitions for clarity, the more it tends to come back and bite you in the end.

and if we simply had a seperation of church and state, Definitons would be left to each persons comfort on personal issues.

That would open a doorway to thousands of crimes against humanity.

Besides, aren't Americans given the rights of 'life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness?'

No. Certainly not by your definition. The Declaration of Independence covers it pretty well:

"...endowed by our Creator with certain inalienable rights...among them are **Life**, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."

That very same Life begins at conception.
