When my husband and I were dating, we didn't have a lot of money. We decided on a monetary mount for gifts and we were on our own.
I bought him practical gifts - like jeans and gloves. He put a lot of thought into my gifts- the 5 senses!
1. Was a cassette tape of my favorite classical music (Vivaldi's 4 seasons) This was the 80s - no CDs, yet.
2. He bought me a small box of Whitman's chocolates- you know the 4 piece box
3. He bought me a small bottle of perfume from a local perfumery. (Honey Gold)
4. He also bought me a small bottles of hand lotion
You get the idea...
You can do the 5 senses and have it lead to wherever you want.
The small gifts were great! He wrapped them himself (it took a lot of effort on his part).
I still remember those gifts and that was over 20 years ago.

Depending on where you live - a harbor cruise or tour at night, I know in S. Cal. there are a couple of companies that do gondola rides at night through the harbor which is really romantic. Picnic at the park or set up a picnic in your living room with candles, soft music. Go somewhere for dinner and dancing. Maybe look at renting a room at a hotel somewhere for the two of you to have a romantic evening together. A cabin in the woods with a fireplace.

I've done this before and it was FUN! Send him on a scavenger hunt in your house!! (Obviously in search of you and a romantic evening). Ask him to start with one task-perhaps going to get something for you, when he finds that object-there will be a note on it from you which describes the next step-perhaps getting out wine and such. The wine bottle has the next note taped to it....and so forth. Keeep going with the notes as long as you like. End in the bedroom or wherever you choose.

go camping together far from the city. Enjoy the p and q... (of course not in a high bushfire risk area).

A free sex card, comparable to a get out of jail card, so when you are MAD at him he could use it :D The greatest gift ever!
