Basophil Count

When activated, basophils secrete histamine, several proteoglycans, lipid mediators like leukotrienes, and several cytokines. You're at zero, so don't worry. However, a low basophil count with a low neutrophil count is almost always indicitive of future leukemia.

Basophils emerge when you are exposed to something that you are allergic to. Like stated before, they are responsible for releasing histamine. If you do have allergies, then your basophil count will be higher (but that of course depends on length of time from exposure to blood draw). Basophil counts are higher in sinus fluids.

As a lab tech, I am not allowed to diagnose or intrepret your result. I hope this information will help you make sense of what the numbers stand for.
