Definately buy some wine glassess. They don't have to be fancy either. (and don't worry about red and white wines..just get the basics right now) Old fashioned glassess (these are for scotch on the rocks, vodka on the rocks, etc.) Beer glassess, if you are into martinis, get martini glasses, they can also be used for margaritas as well.
For stocking:
Vodka - a good one, not cheap crap..no one will drink it. Get Grey goose, belevdere, chopin, or kettle one
Light beers in the refrigerator (Coors light and Heineken Light I always have in case someone wants it)
Wines - White...Chardonnay and Pinot Grirgio. Fairly inexpensive and nice to have. Red- Cabernet. Merlot. Blush- White Zinfendal.
Scotch: Dewars, Johnnie Walker Black
Rum: I carry both white (clear) rum and Meyers Dark Rum
Gin: Tangeray (Not too much use out of it, but I keep it.)
Tequila: Quervo
After dinner drinks, Bailey's Irish Cream and Liquor 43, Amaretto
These are your basics, you can add to it as you see fit. Also, you can keep on hand lime juice, triple sec, a mixer.
Just have fun...these are pretty much the basics.

pilsner glasses, tubs (short wide mouth glass), shot glasses, collins glasses (tall sort of skinny glass), Pounders (16oz regular glass), wine glasses
The standard alcohols for a bar are: Vodka, gin, whiskey, rum, and tequila (known as a well), at least 1 red wine and 1 white wine (usually merlot & chardonnay). Then just get whatever other alcohols you like. Standard mixers are: Coke, 7-up, Orange Juice, and tonic. You may also want grenadine, lemon, lime, and marischino cherries as garnish.
You can stock beer if you want, any type you choose.

Vodka, scotch and/or other whiskies, rum, brandy, along with various mixes (juices, pops); red and white wines, semi-dry usually do. Try to add an assortment of liqueurs. Ask a bartender, or someone you know with a well-stocked bar, as to what glasses are appropriate with what drinks. Have fun.

I would have Bourbon, Scotch, Vodka, Rum as your necessities maybe a few things such as Bailies or Kahlua or Butterscotch Schnapps. I really don't know, whatever drinks you like, after all it's your bar.

So I'm being repetative, alot of the liquor items are standard. Be sure to buy good brands, not the cheap stuff - you will notice the difference.
Here are some good barware items:
