I think they were called spearmints. I do remember them though I was not allowed sweets any more than once a month. Mmm, I can taste them now.
I did rather go in for space dust at one point. Now I like kit-kat though only for medicinal purposes when I am hypoglycaemic.
Diabetes is a horrible disease but the treatment can be rather pleasant. As long as you do not over do it!

Dear Fozmonkey, they were one of my favourites too! Looking at the list above of answers they were called Pacers.
I love pink shrimps and remember MOON DUST? That stuff that exploded in your mouth! Wow! wasn't that stuff just out of this planet!!!
I remember getting 25p in the 1970's for pocket money on Saturdays. My sister and I would go to the local corner shop (the BOB shop) to buy our sweeties. What a lot of sweeties we would get too! as you got 2 Mojo's for just 1/2p then I think.

My favourite was Mint Cracknell! You also used to be able to buy a bar of chocolate which consisted of 2 very thin bars and a bar of milk tray which was a bar with raised shapes of strawberries and hazelnuts etc with those fillings that you now get as a seperate chocolate in a box now.

Ok ok, reading all your answers made me think and I guess there are some retro sweets that we have here in the U.S. that aren't on the list, so here goes. Fun Dip, Pop Rocks, Chewels bubble gum, black jack gum, anyone remember Zero bar?

I know the ones you mean. Grandad used to get them along with humbugs. I wish I could remember the name. Also, I'm having a hard time finding humbugs and jellybabies in Canada since they closed down Marks & Sparks here.

I LOVE Apple jacks - they were like black jacks, but apple flavour.
I've been hunting and hunting but haven't found any in over 8 years.
Oooh, they were delicious.
I know the ones you mean, at least I think I do, but I can't for the life of me remember the name!
I also loved those chocolate ones, in the little foil cups, that had that really melty chocolate inside. Not seen them in about the same length of time - one shop used to do them, and I still check in there, even now!

my favorite retro sweet isn't even all that sweet. it's a breath freshener called sen-sen. little tiny black squares that taste oddly of soap and liccorice. my grandfather always had the tiny gold packet in his pocket, and would always give me one when i would go visit him. when i was in school, long after his passing, i found a local druggist that still sold them!! i bought several packs, as they were only a dime each. when some of my class mates asked for one, i obliged. of course, 98% of them immediately spat them out and complained to the teacher that I was trying to poison them. when the teacher asked to see what I had given them, his eyes lit up!! i ended up giving him a whole pack.
