I haven't spoke to my dad in four months. I feel real guilty because when I last spoke with him I said that I will come see him and never did. I'm scared to talk to him again. Another thing is that he speaks broken english so its hard to understand what he says. What should I do?!

I was raised by my mom and I rarely if ever get to see him. I can't understand him because he's from the Dominican Republic.

When I tell my mom about it she says, "Well, he never tries to get in touch with you." It's true.

What do you mean by he speaks broken English and you don't understand him? Are you adopted? Because if not, say, you are 20, you literally have been around this man for 20 years and that should allow more than enough time for you to get used to his "broken English" already!!!!!

I have so many friends that their parents are from other countries and don't speak english well. I've never heard one of them say anything about not understanding their parents before. If you weren't adopted. This is weird.

While you can't force a relationship, I think you have to consider what your regrets would be if something happened to your dad and you never had another chance to speak with him.

Only you know how much your relationship with your dad matters to you. You have to decide what your comfort level is with him. It's sad, but the biological tie isn't necessarily meaningful. There are a lot of fathers out there who fall into the "sperm donor" category because they never got involved in their kids' lives. That's a choice they've made, and it's a choice that can't easily be unmade.

With regards to the language issue, is there someone who is fluent in your dad's language who can help you speak with him? That might be the easiest way to talk to him.

Please consider what is important to you about your relationship with your dad, and how you would feel if he died suddenly. I think that may help you to consider what you want to do about your relationship with him.

I let four years come between my father and I. He was the kind of dad that was more of a friend than a father to me. I was scared to death to get back in touch with him especially after I missed his wedding with his new wife. Although we talk now we don't forget what happened with us and that ads a strain to our relationship. Close the gap before it gets to big and Bary the hatchet. You only have one dad, and one day you might regret the lost time you could of had.

Good luck.

Talk to your dad. Listen to him. Try to understand him. You only get one DAD in this life and you have to accept him just the way he is. Some people wish they knew their dad or met their dad before. You have one and dont speak to him. You have to talk to him. You never know what tomorrow may bring. Regret may take over. Dont let it.

Girl get busy and fight back your depression. Goggle has super translators for free. Use it to talk to a friend in Dr. and then talk to him on line. You can use the translator so fast you can be on Messenger . I have sons that their mom kept away from me and they have suffered for it. I have suffered for it.
