No, bratwurst isn't really that expensive. There are so many different specialty sausages anymore and they can be much more expensive that brats. And yes, true bratwurst is made from veal. Look for the white colored brats....these are the best. Oh, and don't waste a good brat by eating it on a hot dog bun. For a good brat, you must eat it on a brat bun or a hoagie bun. They are bigger than hot dog buns. Serve up with some sauerkraut and a little spicy brown mustard....Mmmm Mmmm Mmmm

Assalamu alaikum. Hahaha i dont think theres anything wrong with sausage and regular bread, We do that here all the time, Get regular sanwich bread and a sausage and make it into a 'hot dog'. Or sometimes we do that atkins hot dog , Where you get a sausage add whatever topings you want without the bun lol , I think your dad is just creative if you ask me lol.

Nope, there are specialty "dogs" and sausages out there that are more expensive by the pound. You normally have to pick them up in the butchers case or in specialty areas of the grocery.

BTW Brats are not traditionally made of Beef, they are a sausage made of pork and veal.
