One of the three Abrahamic religions: Christianity, Islam, and Judaism. Whereas Christians believe Jesus Christ to be their savior, Muslims believe that Jesus was a prophet. The main prophet in Islam is Mohammed.
Their version of the Bible is called the Qu'ran (Koran) and the word they use for God is Allah. Although they have specific rituals and practices that differ from Christianity, it is not THAT different.
It is a religious belief system that gives people rules to live clean, happy lives, just like Christianity does. It also gives an explanation for what happens to us after we die, which all of us can only speculate on.
People should not base Islam on the fanatical few that the terrorists are often associated with. That is like basing Christianity on television evangelists, or the Christian Crusades where they went around killing people if they did not convert.

well the Pope said something about it right? !!! he he he.
he then went to Turkey so the media of the whole wide world could get a good look at some banners calling for beheading everyone, Pope included.
Biggest mobilitation of security ever, to defend him from the "peaceful religion", right at the time when they are begging us to join the EU.
I think the Pope tricked some ignorant masses into shooting themselves in the foot, and nobody has cottoned to it yet. lol.
Since then there has been some unheard of heavy talk in the UK, words like "integrate or don't come here" were uttered, completely uncharacteristic Brits behaviour ..... so things are shifting as far as one might describe Islam nowadays, just shift what "political correctness" is allowed and some bottled feelings come out, no doubt someone is getting tired with spending trillions $$ just to watch "peaceful brothers killing other peaceful brothers" on a daily basis. It's becoming not much different than the film "mars attack" at this point.
Why can't we be all happy and save the trees instead. let's drop leaflets into Iraq explaining that we should save the brazilian forests then just leave the place and hope for the best!

A savage and barbaric religion created to unite the warring tribes of Arabia. The fact that Sunni are constantly hunting and killing Shi'ar shows how successful Mohammed was dealing with those ignorant primitives. It also includes the idea of Military conquest to spread the faith and its asking a bit much of liberal thinking to say 'since we respect your religious beliefs please go ahead and convert us or kill us as your religion commands you'.
I think the Danish cartoon incident shows what Islam is all about - All those people dying over a stupid cartoon and then the leading 'moderate' muslim in the UK defending it saying its because they love Mohammed so much and they dont depict him. Well so what? I'm not Muslim so I'll draw as many Mohammed cartoons as I want - who the hell do they think they are forcing their views down everyones throat?

more desirable ideal (than Christianity) i wager what human beings dont understand is there are extremes to each team... they are seeing actually teh very adverse of Islam because thats what our media right here makes a speciality of.. and pushes.. EXTREMISTS of ANY type are undesirable... oh and easily so that you already know.. Christians have killed more desirable human beings in the call of Christianity than ALL different RELIGIONS blended!!!! and also you ought to work out their "brainwashing" application for kids.. watch the educate JESUS CAMP..

A great faith, sad enough large number of those who are born Muslims has messed up the name of a great religion in the name of Allah. Islam is peace and unlike other religion, Islam is the only major religion -other than Christianity- that believe in Jesus and the virgin Mary.

As a religion like any other: Based on a set of rules which are supposed to help guide followers towards living a good life and which is 99.99% peace-loving with a tiny minority of extremists (Just like the Christians, Jews, Hindus and so on).
Extremism exists in virtually all religions but Islam is singled out for media focus at the moment, unfairly in my eyes.
