I am about to go to my doctor and ask her to prescribe me some anxiety medication. I have been dealing with anxiety for so long that I can't take it any more. I wanted to know which anxiety medication works the fastest. I don't want to wait months for the medication to kick in.

MEDITATION and not medication is the answer;

Combine good meditative practices with the medication that your doctor has prescribed. The response would be faster.

Also, continue with your meditative practice without interruption life-long, just as you would not forget to breathe!

Well, most of these medications have serious side effects. Everyone's body reacts differently, and they have actually been known to increase thoughts of suicide and make symptoms worse, especially in ppl' under the age of 18. Over time, these medications lose effectiveness in working, which is known as the "poop out" effect. So because of this, along with those d@mn side effects, I think these crazy meds should be taken off the market. It's best to see a counselor that does "talk" therapy and cognitive behavior therapy. Also, a professional one on one session with a hypnotist (no, not those hypnotists you see on stage, I'm talking about a real doctor that does hypnosis to cure bad habits like smoking) might help you too. Best of luck.

Xanax, Klonopin, and Ativan work pretty quickly. For some reason, doctors are hesitant to prescribe antianxiety medications. Probably because they are addicting and also because it's just covering over the problem not taking care of it. There are ways you can learn to cope with the anxiety. They may give you something to tide you over. They may also give you a prescription for antidepressants that work for anxiety too. Those do take a long time to be effective. It depends on your doctor. My family doctor wouldn't prescribe me any antianxiety meds but my psychiatrist did.

If you are a natural person you should try cognitive behavioral therapy. It was the only thing that has helped me with my horrible health anxiety. Read here https://tr.im/UQKfa

Your thinking determines your quality of life. Your thinking is what causes you these feelings:

Anxious, fearful, stressed or depressed
Constantly worried, or angry about something that is happening in your life
Struggling to overcome obsessive and negative thoughts.

If you change your thinking, you will change your life. This is the basic idea behind CBT for anxiety. The Cognitive part is where you learn nee methods and ways to change your same old habits and thinking patterns. If you keep thinking and expecting the worst – You will continue to suffer.

Xanax and Valium are considered some of the best for generalized anxiety disorders, however not so for phobias, OCD or panic disorders. You might want to check in with the appropriate Health Professional if you want medicine prescribed accurately. Good Luck=)

The only anxiety med I've ever taken was Lorazepam but I would not recommend it. It's highly addictive and can give you a kind of blase attitude about things which is not healthy.

are you sure it is anxiety and not a form of depression? I used to get depressed because I was anxious and finally my doctor figured out that I have Bi-Polar disorder. Just make sure that the doctor knows all your symptoms and you get a full checkup.
I take buspar and it works well for me. A couple weeks and it worked for me.

Your doctor is the only one who should make such a recommendation, and this should happen AFTER she asks you a series of questions about your emotional state and physical health.

Seeking a prescription based on what you've Googled or seen in a commercial is not the way to go.

Report the symptons, and ask what can be prescribed.

I would be very careful with anit-anxiety medications...especially Xanax. Xanax is a very addictive drug which has alot of side-effects. No matter what you choose to do, you should of course consult with a physician and research side effects yourself.
