Froyd (who you don't know about yet probabyl) said men look for women that share similarities with their mother. But I think he was talking about soul mates and potential spouses. So, in your case, it is actually way simpler than you think.
At your age, guys just want to get close to a girl. Any girl. The prettier, the better, but a girl none the less. The popular guys have their choice of picks of course, and so do the prettiest girls. But really, with all the influxes of hormones and stuff, guys just want to be with a girl.
Now some guys who have more maturity will actually look for characteristics they like, but they wont be hard to accomodate. All you have to do is stay clean, stay healthy, stay free-spirited, and vindictive-free, and almost all guys will want you. If you have a non-annoying bubbly personality that isn't afraid of talking a little dirty and flirtatious every now and then, that certainly wont hurt you.
Finally, remember that guys in your age bracket don't know what they are really looking for yet anyway. They barely know what they will be like 10 years from now. Just learn to be open-minded and tolerant of other people, and you should find dating in high school a little easier.

At my age and yours, looks first off. That is the first attraction thing going.
Just be yourself. A guy who likes you for a fake personality is gonna be just a little disappointed that Don't go hunting, because we guys like to take a piece when we see it's looking at us in a different way.
For attention, get to know us first. Then, turn things up a bit and start to be approachable. You know, more flirty and spend more time with him. That usually sends up a flag in our heads.

A guy will not date a girl that can't flirt now and then. You can't be to concerned with your wait. Oh and if a guy you like catches you flirting with another guy, it's over.
