On Roman Catholic crosses and crucifixes,(and, to a lesser extent, Eastern Orthodox and Protestant ones as well), the letters "INRI" appear. These letters are the initials of the Latin phrase "Iesvs Nazarenvs, Rex Ivdaeorvm". Translated, it means, "Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews".

The letters traditionally are "I N R I" which is the abbreviation for the Latin phrase "Iesus Nazarii Rex Iudiorum," which in English translates to "Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews."

The writing above was written in different languages (INRI) but it means Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews. The Jewish authorities demanded that Pilate who made that the inscription change it to "He said he was the King of the Jews", but Pilate left it as it was telling them that what I have written I have written leading some to believe that He was indeed the King of the Jews and Messiah.

Yup, Jesus King of Jews. It was made to mock him, because the rulers feared more Jews following him than them. If they only knew....
