Entirely up to you. Would you be leaving a wife and child(ren) behind, or are you single? If you're single, I'd go for it - yes, it's a dangerous place, but that's good money and you would certainly get some new experiences....

I would say if you are going to work and live on the base you should be safe. If you live outside the base I'd be asking a lot of questions.
One will I be allowed to carry a side arm? What protection will I have against someone kidnapping me? Take a look at this article, 150 people were kidnapped just 10 hours ago in Baghdad.

They are low balling you. Most civilians in Iraq make 100k+ a year, most of it is tax free but not all of it, if i remember right its the first 80k you make, and just because your on a base doesn't mean your safe either, hajji has a little thing called mortars and lob them into bases all the time. If you do take it never say to a soldier "I make $85K a year, but ONLY the first $80k is tax free" nothing pissed me off more.

Go if you want the money. You live on a base and are pretty safe. What job in the US pays that much tax free and gives you that much vacation time. 12hr a day 7 days a week though.

Hey, if you are a smoker, forget it. Wing Commander Col. Jay Santee is about to sign an order making Smoking illegal. If you disagree with this call him at 719-556-2100 or email him at Jay.Santee@peterson.af.mil. If you can do without the cigs and want the money, what are you waiting on? Happy New Year.

I wouldn't. Is 85k/year worth risking your life for? Can't you find equivalent salary in the states?
