No...it doesn't matter how big or tall they are. The only thing that really matters is how fast they can run the course. In my opinion a quarter horse or a paint would be better than a thoroughbred for running barrels...even though a thoroughbred could probably do it...i'm just sayin

It would be tall for a barrel horse. Most that do best are Quarter horses and 16h is tall for one.
Quarter horses do better than thoroughbreds at barrels simply because quaters were bred to get down and turn tight and fast and work cattle lots of tight turns/
Thoroughbred were bred to run fast in a much straighter line. they do not sit down as tight or turn as tight. I see lots of really ggod barrel horses that are Appendix Qh meaning one parent was a TB and the other a QH.

My app is a 16 hand barrel horse, he does just fine. He should do quite fine, if it's a tall horse he'll have strong legs for speed.

Any horse can be a barrel horse as long as they can run the course, get around the barrels neat and clean and boot it back to the start line.

no, not really just as long as he isnt so tall that he shoulders the barrels or something. if thats a horse you are looking at buying then he should have a long stride, shorter back then his underline and if hes a runner/cow horse bred horse he should do good...theyre the best barrel horses
