I don't recall the music ever being so loud in Wal-mart, but some stores are ridiculous. Everytime I walk into Abercrombie and Fitch, it's like a dance club.

I suspect they play loud music so that you do not have too much opportunity to think.
It would be to their advantage if you get in...BUY...get out.
The volume may also have something to do with the time of day.
I notice that the volume is much lower in the mornings than it is in the evenings. I attribute the lower volume in th e monring to it being mostly Mom's with kids shopping as opposed to evenings when it is more teens and older people.

Dr Shorty is close.......the stores play subliminal messages in the music to make you buy stuff. The more focused you are on the annoying music the more the message is getting through to your brain.

The music in stores has been carefully chosen to make you buy more. They play soft music so you will go slower, and stay in the store longer, therefore being exposed to more product.

They do that so you won't hear all the rats in the ceilings. just kidding, they play it so people can enjoy some music while shopping. The volume? Have no idea.
